Edm Machine
How is a Electro discharge machine used to produce glass bottle moulds for the dairy industry?
This question really confused me as i don’t know a great deal about edm machining be great if someone can explain! cheers
To EDM something you first need to machine an electrode out of either copper or graphite and mount it into an EDM machine. The machine fills up with a special fluid and the electrode is fed into your work-piece. The electrode never touches your work piece but it gets close enough for a spark to go between and slowly remove material from your work-piece. The electrode must be the negative of what you are trying to make, like a reverse mold. Graphite electrodes allow for faster metal removal rates I believe, but deteriorate more quickly. Wire EDM is an electrically charged wire running through a machine that resembles more of a band saw that can only cut all the way through a piece of metal and can create almost square corners.
